U.S. Materials Handling Celebrates 70 Years of Service, Innovation, and Family Tradition

Syracuse, NY — March 2026 — U.S. Materials Handling proudly announces the celebration of its 70th Anniversary, marking seven decades of “Helping companies lift it, move it and store it.”

Founded in 1956 by Robert A. and Erma D. Payne, U.S. Materials Handling began as a small two-person operation built on hard work, integrity, and a commitment to serving customers. Today, that same dedication continues as the company celebrates 70 years of helping businesses of all sizes operate safer, smarter, and more efficiently.

Built as a family business and now four generations strong, U.S. Materials Handling remains grounded in experience, long-standing relationships, and a deep understanding of real-world operations. Over the decades, the company has grown from a modest office into a multi-million-dollar, multi-location, full-line material handling distributorship, serving a wide range of industries across the region.

U.S. Materials Handling represents leading manufacturers across a full range of material handling product lines, offering comprehensive solutions tailored to each customer’s operational needs. Services include systems engineering, turnkey installations, parts and service support, as well as new, used, and rental equipment options. The company also provides fork truck safety training, helping organizations maintain safer workplaces and meet operational compliance standards.

“As the material handling industry has evolved, so have we,” said Shaun O’Brien, President of U.S. Materials Handling. “By combining decades of hands-on experience with modern solutions and technology, we continue to help our customers improve productivity, safety, and long-term performance.”

While the company has expanded and adapted over the years, one thing has remained constant:
Our commitment to doing what’s right for our customers.

As U.S. Materials Handling celebrates this milestone anniversary, the company looks forward to continuing its legacy of innovation, service, and partnership with customers for generations to come.
